Did you know? Two in three people who are infected with hepatitis B aren't aware of their status, because their symptoms do not show up until they develop liver cancer or liver failure.
The Hepatitis B Initiative of Washington, DC (HBI-DC) works across Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia to prevent hepatitis B infection and its consequences, including liver cancer. We provide culturally- and linguistically-appropriate health education, Hepatitis B screenings, and vaccinations. We link individuals who test positive to treatment.
Every step of the way, we work with our community partners to reach those at highest risk for hep B - specifically, Asian American, Pacific Islander, and African newcomer communities. One in 12 Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, as well as one in 10 African Newcomers, are infected with Hepatitis B.
This October, contribute to the fight against Hep B by running with our Marine Corps Marathon Charity Partner Team, and help us stop this "silent killer." We're asking marathon runners to commit to raising $500, 10K runners to raise a minimum of $50. Teams are welcome, and a little friendly competition is encouraged. We're also thrilled to welcome young philanthropists to join our team at the Healthy Kids Fun Run (no fundraising minimum!). 100% of profits support HBI-DC's life-saving work - right here in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.
