Julie C. Ost, MPH, is Chair of the Board of Directors at the Hepatitis B Initiative of Washington D.C. Inc. (HBI-DC). Ms. Ost's interests to improve the life-saving work of HBI-DC is of technical assistance for health education, improved evaluation measures and support for expansion of ethnic and racial groups in order to provide Hepatitis B screening, education, vaccination and linkages to care for those within communities with high burdens of disease. Wai Ping Chan, J.D. is a volunteer director who provides legal expertise to the Hepatitis B Initiative of Washington D.C., Inc. and serves as its authorized representative. Mr. Chan has been working in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Office of Civil Rights since 1998.

Jane Pan, Executive Director
Jane is the Executive Director of Hepatitis B Initiative of Washington D.C., Inc. (HBI-DC). Over two years, she worked closely with the Chair of the HBI-DC Board of Directors and the principal investigator to prepare grant proposals. Ms. Pan developed the proposed budgets, plus all the staffing and work plans that would make the project successful. During this short period of time, Ms. Pan promoted the hepatitis B prevention project to prospective sponsors and supporters. She engaged key leaders of external organizations as components in an integrated clinical, allied health, and administrative network. Ms. Pan outreached to the target community to identify their needs, clarify their demands, and reinforced the importance of hepatitis B education and prevention in the high-risk groups. She also solicited partnerships for collaboration with other important resources to enhance public access to health services. She has a double duty as the Project Manager for all the projects since last July of 2009. Ms. Pan is bilingual with fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Shanghai Chinese. She is fully prepared to lead the innovative and highly motivated team of HBI-DC, a group that is dedicated to community service and focuses on a systems approach to solving major community health issues.
Erin Burns, Communications Director
Erin is passionate about ending health disparities as part of a broader social justice movement. While attending Guilford College, Erin became involved in grassroots advocacy around the AIDS pandemic. She has since worked in a communications capacity for several nonprofits, including the American Civil Liberties Union, Many Languages One Voice, and Building Goodness Foundation. [Read More]
Dan-Tam Phan-Hoang, M.S.: Project Coordinator
Dan-Tam's passion is alleviating health disparities by increasing healthcare awareness and access in underserved populations. As the project coordinator, she reaches out to underserved communities and works with community leaders to organize free hepatitis B and C education, screenings and hepatitis B vaccinations. She also follows up with individuals to make sure they are connected to care and manages HBI-DC's social media accounts. [Read More]
